Assessment 1: Online
Case Study Test (15% of Overall Marks)
Learning
outcome/s: This
assessment is designed to assess the students’ knowledge of contemporary SCM concepts applied and evaluate issues found in the case study provided.
Description:
Students are required
to answer a set of structured questions based on a case study uploaded in
Blackboard in Week 4. Answers are to be submitted electronically to the
myRMIT’s Blackboard system.
Assessment 2-‐A: Group Research Report (35% of
Overall Marks)
Learning outcome/s: This assessment is designed to assess the students’
knowledge of contemporary SCM concepts applied in real life cases. Students are
also required to demonstrate the ability to analyse issues within the real life cases.
Description: Students are required to work in groups of no more than FIVE (any other
arrangements are subjected to lecturer/tutor’s approval) to prepare a research
report (approximate 4500 words) to investigate the supply chain of a real-‐life business organisation (operating in Australia) and
propose recommendations to optimise
the supply chain management
and operations with particular focus on feasibility and implementation. Further
details of the report requirements can
be found in the myRMIT Blackboard’s system. Reports are required to be submitted electronically to myRMIT’s Blackboard.
Breakdown of Tasks
- Formation of Groups (Groups are to be finalised by week 3 unless due to late enrolment).
- Select the proposed organisation for assessment. Details of group and company must be submitted to the tutor for approval by the end of the tutorial session week 3. There should be no duplication of companies in the same tutorial class. Companies selected have to be operating in Australia but not necessarily to be Australian-‐owned e.g. Starbucks.
- Discuss the organisation highlighting the practicality and the challenges of the business, operations and supply chains. Students should be able to justify their choice of company (i.e. what makes the company interesting). There should not be any duplication of companies in the same tutorial class. Companies selected have to be operating in Australia but not necessarily to be Australian-‐owned. E.g Starbucks.
- Perform all necessary analyses such as SWOT, GAP for the company and the appropriate business models that can be adopted with emphasis on internal and external factors that will impact the business models.
- Based on the information collected and the subsequent analysis, develop a supply chain strategy for the company addressing key issues identified from the analyses.
- To reflect on what has been learnt and also if there are any disparities from what is expected.
- A formal business report is required (see recommended report format below)
- All concepts discussed and proposals made must be referenced.
Research reports will be assessed
primarily on the comprehensiveness of the report as well as the efforts
invested in compiling the report by the students and the lecturer.
